Ribbon Cutting Marks Opening for New Holmes County Health Department

June 15, 2011

A ribbon cutting ceremony this afternoon marked the official opening of the new Holmes County Health Department, located at 22545 Depot Street , Lexington .

Built to replace the former facility at 106 Westwood Avenue , the new health department will continue to offer the full range of services that Holmes County citizens depend on, as well as a few new ones.

"We are very excited," said Diane Hargrove, District Administrator. "The building is more efficiently designed which will allow us to see our patients in a shorter amount of time."

Construction of the facility cost $1.1 million, with funding coming from the county and other federal grants.

As part of the Mississippi State Department of Health, the Holmes County Health Department protects the public by inspecting the county's 33 water systems and 97 food service facilities, as well as providing childhood immunizations and other vital health services, such as the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC).
