The immunology division conducts testing in support of the HIV/STD Program, Family Planning Program,
Maternity Program, the TB Program, and the Epidemiology Office.
Some assays provide routine surveillance
information such as HIV screening of all new jail inmates in the state and Hepatitis screening of all health
department maternity patients. Other assays are done in response to outbreaks such as hepatitis A antibody
screening for restaurant employees. Arbovirus screening is provided to support continuing surveillance of mosquito-borne illness.
- HIV: CIA screening with Western Blot confirmation of all positives.
- Hepatitis: Hepatitis screening for A, B and C are available.
- Maternity: For maternity patients, rubella, varicella and measles screening is offered.
- HCG: Quantitative HCG (pregnancy test) is available Monday through Friday.
- TB Antibody: Screening by EIA
- Toxins: We also provide screening for Shiga-like toxins in stools and food.
- Arbovirus: Our arbovirus panel includes tests for IgM antibodies to: St Louis Encephalitis Virus, LaCrosse Encephalitis Virus, and West Nile Virus.
Technology
Most assays performed are in the CIA, ELISA or ELFA format. Testing is performed using both highly automated
instrumentation and research level assays with totally manual procedures.
The guidelines for sample collection, transport, ordering and normal turn around time for results can be obtained from the
Laboratory Services Guide. Please note that some research level assays require prior permission for submission.
