Background
Dr. Evelyn Walker, a graduate of Delta State University, is a board-certified family physician who received her medical degree and residency training at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. In addition, she received a Masters of Public Health in Health Care Organization and Policy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in August 2007.
Dr. Walker worked for eleven years with the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), where she helped conduct the landmark Jackson Heart Study (JHS), assisting in the coordination of Community Health Advisors to disseminate cardiovascular disease prevention education through community activities.
She has served as co-chair of the Mississippi Chronic Illness Coalition, has membership on the Governor's Task Force on CVD and Stroke and has served as a spokesperson for the national Heart Truth campaign to increase awareness of heart disease in women. Prior to her NHLBI appointment she had practiced Family Medicine for nearly ten years, providing health care to the medically underserved.
