The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) recognizes today, February 7, as National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD), a nationwide community mobilization initiative that aims to increase awareness, participation, and support for HIV prevention among African Americans.
Federal, state and local agencies, community-based organizations, AIDS service organizations, public and private partners in prevention, treatment and care, as well as partners in the business, entertainment, and faith communities have all joined together in support of NBHAAD. There are four key focus areas of the initiative: Get Educated, Get Tested, and Get Involved and Get Treated.
MSDH continues to partner with community-based organizations, some hospital emergency departments, community health centers, mental health facilities, and alcohol and drug treatment centers to help increase access to testing, increase the number of people who know their HIV status, and link those who are HIV positive to care and treatment.
